Héctor Cordobés de la Calle and Luis Felipe Chiroque, two members of the IMDEA Networks research team, have received the Award to the Best Solution Approach (Premio al Mejor Enfoque de Solución), at the Artificial Intelligence Hackathon 2016. They also came second on the Best Statistical Model category.
The Hackathon, which took place in Madrid on November 4th and 5th for twenty-four straight hours of collaborative computer programming, was organized by Accenture Digital, Google Cloud and the Madrid City Council.

The competition brought together data scientists, statisticians, researchers, developers, programmers, marketing specialists, teachers and other professionals interested in Machine Learning. The prize to the Best Solution Approach was one of three awarded; the other two rewarded the Best Technological Approach and the Best Statistical Model, respectively. They all recognized each winning team’s talent, capacity for innovation and creativity.
A Research Engineer, Héctor Cordobés is a member of the Pervasive Wireless Networks Group at IMDEA Networks, which is led by Dr. Domenico Giustiniano. This group aims to develop truly pervasive and seamless communication using innovative wireless systems. Luis Felipe Chiroque, on the other hand, is a PhD Student working within the Global Computing Group led by Dr. Antonio Fernández Anta. This group explores distributed computing systems and social networks in the widest sense.
