Pablo Serrano appointed Deputy Director of IMDEA Networks

With a long-standing academic career, he will contribute to strengthening the Institute’s strategy and institutional development

IMDEA Networks has appointed Dr. Pablo Serrano as its new Deputy Director, an appointment that strengthens the management team and will contribute to advancing the organization’s objectives in this new stage.

In his new role, he will support the Institute’s leadership in matters of strategy and institutional development, working to strengthen IMDEA Networks’ position both nationally and internationally. “I am excited to embark on this new stage; it is an opportunity to contribute to the Institute’s continued growth, help attract exceptional research talent, and continue positioning IMDEA Networks as a leading institution in global research and innovation networks,” he says.

Pablo holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), obtained in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He has an extensive academic career and, since 2002, has been a member of UC3M’s Telematics Engineering Department, where he is currently a Full Professor. Over the years, he has held various positions of responsibility, including Director of the Department, Director of the Master’s Degree in Connected Industry 4.0, and Director of Infrastructure, Digitalization and Sustainability at the School of Polytechnic Engineering.

His research focuses on wireless networks, performance evaluation, and the convergence of AI and communications. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals and conferences, including IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE INFOCOM, ACM CoNEXT, and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. He has also served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, Elsevier Computer Communications, and The Computer Journal. He is an IEEE Senior Member and has undertaken visiting research stays at UMass Amherst, the University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, and Telefónica Research, among other institutions.

His relationship with IMDEA Networks dates back several years, during which he collaborated closely with both the Institute and NEXTONIC. In this regard, his appointment as Deputy Director represents a natural progression of this collaboration and of his professional career, bringing his academic, research, and management experience to the Institute’s leadership team.
