5TONIC Vice-President Arturo Azcorra participates in a panel entitled ‘Innovation through Joint Industry-Academic Partnerships’ at IEEE INFOCOM. At this panel he presented the work of 5TONIC as an example of the successful partnership between industry and academia currently driving innovation and research in communication networks in Europe.

The madri+d Forum on Communications Technologies is hosted by University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) on its Leganes Campus. The conference, "The Role of Europe in Internet Governance", will begin with a presentation on the international research institute, IMDEA Networks, by its Director, Dr. Arturo Azcorra, and will be followed by a speech by Professor Jon Crowcroft, Marconi Professor in Networked Systems at the University of Cambridge.

Information reception to be held at IMDEA Networks’ newly refurbished offices to which all other building dwellers are invited, together with the University Carlos III of Madrid authorities, and NETCOM Research Group members from its Telematics Department, in order to celebrate the completion of the renovation work done in Avenida del Mar Mediterráneo, 22. This is event is prior to the Inauguration Event to be held in the summer.

La Feria Madrid por la Ciencia (The Forum for Science) is a key part of the Programa de Ciencia y Sociedad (Science and Society Program) that the Regional Government of Madrid launched in 2000, through the Dirección General de Universidades e Investigación (Directorate-General of Universities and Research). This Program seeks not only to promote dialogue between citizens and scientists, but also to increase the public’s participation in science.

On July 11th INDEA Networks held the Annual Inaugural Meeting of its Scientific Council in Madrid. The meeting marked a milestone in the establishment of the research foundation. This prestigious Council is comprised of eleven of the World´s top researchers in network technology.

The Council was introduced to dignitaries, including senior representatives from the Regional Government of Madrid, who created and founded the IMDEA initiative. Having formally accepted their positions as Members, these eminent experts proceeded to discuss various aspects of the Foundation’s scientific strategy, which will help to steer the direction of research to be pursued over the coming years.

The objective of these symposia is to celebrate idea-sharing sessions on the importance of the technological medium of telematic networks in general, and of the REDIMadrid network in particular, for the development of leading research activity at World level. The collaborative support on the activity of distributed research groups, GRID environments, distributed super-computers and scientific databases are examples of its application to almost any field of scientific research.

The Madrid Audiovisual Cluster is a member of the steering committee of BROADCAST, the professional forum for audiovisual technology, which this year is adopting a new approach: the event will experience a quantum leap from the traditional exhibition of products to the proposal of emerging solutions and contents. In this manner, BROADCAST aims to adapt to the specificities of the audiovisual technology industry today.
