Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad for Qing Wang

Qing Wang, a PhD Student at IMDEA Networks Institute, has been awarded the “2014 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed (non-government sponsored) Students Abroad” from the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
The award is set up to honor overseas Chinese students pursuing a PhD with outstanding academic accomplishment across all academic disciplines. Developed in 2003, the awards are based on academic merit and encourage international Chinese students to achieve first-class results during their studies. Student winners are selected through a rigorous process of evaluation of their academic and research work and no more than 500 young talents receive the award every year.
Qing Wang has been awarded in recognition of his PhD research on Visible Light Communication (VLC), Device-to-Device Communication, Opportunistic Scheduling, Performance Evaluation and Stochastic Optimization. He works under the supervision of Dr. Domenico Giustiniano, a Research Assistant Professor at IMDEA Networks and research leader of the Institute’s Pervasive Wireless Systems Group.
To be applicable for this award, the student must be studying a PhD degree, be under the age of 40 and self-financed (non-government sponsored). The selection involves a minimum of three rounds of judging conducted by experts from each student’s field of study, both in China and the host country.
