Our Research Associate Professor, Narseo Vallina-Rodríguez, has been honored with one of the prestigious “Medals to Young Researchers” awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, in recognition of his outstanding work as a Young Researcher in the 2023 edition. This prestigious award was presented to him at a ceremony held on November 21 in Madrid, highlighting his significant merit in the field of cybersecurity and privacy.

Narseo Vallina assumed the position of Research Assistant Professor at IMDEA Networks in October 2016, where he leads the Internet Analytics Group (IAG). Years later, in 2021, he successfully passed the tenure evaluation at the institute. As a sign of his capacity for technology transfer, Narseo is also co-founder of AppCensus Inc, a US-based spin-off that develops technologies for the comprehensive analysis of software, particularly to verify its regulatory compliance and transparency automatically.

His research interests focus on two main areas: network analysis at scale, and empirical analysis of online privacy and security. The societal impact of his research efforts has earned him multiple recognitions, including the prestigious Ramón y Cajal grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He also achieved ACM Senior Membership status in 2022. For the social and regulatory impact of his studies, Narseo received, in 2019, 2020 and 2021 the Emilio ACED Award granted by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), and in 2019 and 2021 the CNIL-INRIA Privacy Protection Award.
