José Antonio Ruipérez Valiente, 2018 Research Award Spanish Computer Science Association (SCIE) and BBVA Foundation

The members of the jury of the Spanish Computer Science Association (SCIE) – BBVA Foundation 2018, which met on May 7th 2018 at the headquarters of the BBVA Foundation of Madrid, decided to grant him one of the six prizes awarded nationally within the category ‘Young Computer Scientists’. This award is granted in recognition of José Antonio’s contributions to the application of artificial intelligence techniques and data analysis in online education environments (MOOCs).

The second award he has received is the Excellence Award 2018 granted by the Social Council of the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M). The Excellence Awards celebrated their 10th edition and are supported by Banco Santander, through the Santander Universidades initiative, and by the Airbus Group. The prize was awarded to him in the modality of alumni and it recognized ‘candidates who have graduated less than 5 years ago from University Carlos III of Madrid’, distinguishing the remarkable professional development of the researcher José Antonio Ruipérez-Valiente since he obtained his PhD in May 2017.

José Antonio’s impressive career development goes back to 2015, when he received three awards for the master’s thesis he prepared in the first year of his doctoral studies. He is currently a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.
