Institute IMDEA Networks Appoints Dr. Rade Stanojević as Staff Researcher

12 October 2010

Dr. Stanojević will contribute broad experience in areas such as performance evaluation, network economics and energy-aware computing.

Institute IMDEA Networks, a research institute backed by the Madrid Regional Government, has announced that Dr. Rade Stanojević will join the team in October 2010 in the role of Staff Researcher, bringing with him extensive experience in performance evaluation, network economics and energy-aware computing. A short biography of Dr. Stanojević is available here.

At the Institute Dr. Stanojević will be focusing on areas such as resource allocation in the cloud, cost-sharing in access networks, energy-aware resource and load allocation and delay-tolerant networks for bulk data transfers. His recent work in the area of cloud resource allocation explores the use of dynamic speed scaling as a way to reduce the amount of power consumed by clouds (1). His publications on decentralized cloud control have received the ACM SIGMETRICS 2008 Kenneth C. Sevcik Outstanding Student Paper Award and the IEEE IWQoS 2009 Best Paper Award.

Most recently Dr. Stanojević was a postdoctoral researcher at Telefonica Research in Barcelona, Spain, where he focused on economic aspects of the network traffic management. His work on this topic includes a paper published this year in ACM Internet Measurement Conference, exploring the impact individual users have on the cost of access providers in the Internet (2).

Dr. Stanojević received his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Niš in Serbia and his Ph.D. from the Hamilton Institute, a multi-disciplinary research center established at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He is a member of the technical program committee for the IEEE’s International Workshop on Quality of Service (IWQoS) and is a reviewer for technical journals including Transactions on Networking and Computer Communications, as well as for conferences including the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (INFOCOM) and the IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS).
