An IMDEA Networks team participates in the 2025 Quantum Internet Alliance Hackathon

This annual event brings together the research community to shape the future of the Quantum Internet

28 November 2025

An IMDEA Networks team is taking part, within the framework of the regional project MADQUANTUM-CM (funded by Comunidad de Madrid and NextGeneration-EU/PRTR), in the 2025 edition of the Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA) Hackathon, an annual event where developers, researchers, and students come together for a full day of building and experimenting with technologies that will shape the future Quantum Internet.

The team, composed of PhD students Blanca López and Ángela Díaz and research engineers Javier Pérez and Iván Melijosa, is working directly with advanced simulation tools used within the QIA ecosystem, such as NetQASM and SquidASM, prototyping new protocol ideas and collaborating with the global quantum networking community.

This year’s challenges include:

  • Developing a CHSH-inequality-based game,
  • Implementing coordination mechanisms using shared entanglement between network nodes,
  • Prototyping a quantum digital-payment protocol,
  • Exploring blind quantum computing, and
  • Designing leader-election schemes based on quantum techniques.

Participation in this event reinforces IMDEA Networks’ active role in the MADQuantum-CM project through its contributions to the technological development, talent creation and industrial ecosystem development of the Quantum Flagship, the pan European network sponsoring QIA and this 2025 Hackathon. In doing so, IMDEA Network is playing a part in the development of the future Quantum Internet, fostering innovation, collaboration, and hands-on experimentation in quantum networking.
