Madrid City Council, through Madrid Convention Bureau, celebrated this week the 16th edition of Recognition Night at the historic Callao Cinemas, an event to thank 17 professionals who have promoted the capital as a congress venue in 2023. At this event it was announced that our Research Director, Joerg Widmer, has been named MCB Ambassador for his outstanding contribution and organization of the 29th edition of the ACM MOBICOM 2023 conference.

Recognition Night stood as an act of gratitude to this group of representatives who contributed significantly to consolidate the Spanish capital as a congress epicenter during the year 2023. The newly appointed MCB Ambassadors, from diverse fields such as science, technology, engineering, medicine and aviation, were recognized for their dedication and efforts to position Madrid as a privileged destination for events and meetings of international relevance.

Joerg Widmer, an undisputed leader in the field of research, was honored for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Madrid as an epicenter of innovation and knowledge. His work in organizing the 29th edition of ACM MOBICOM, an international event of great relevance in the field of mobile communications, was highlighted. His ability to lead and coordinate a congress of such magnitude not only highlights his professional competence but also his fundamental role in promoting the city as a strategic destination for the scientific and technological community at a global level.

With these new distinctions, there are now nearly 270 people recognized during the sixteen Recognition Night events, an initiative that is part of the Madrid Convention Bureau’s (MCB) ‘Ambassadors Program’. Launched in 2008, the program’s mission is to assist specialists and agents in areas such as research and science, university teaching and the Spanish associative sector in organizing their congress in Madrid. This assistance is provided throughout the entire process, from start to finish, and includes the latest industry perspectives and trends, such as sustainability and legacy, fundamental pillars of the current municipal tourism strategy.
