The seminar will cover essential aspects of tech-based entrepreneurship, with special regard to ventures in the field of ICTs.
Resources for entrepreneurs at UC3M within the Campus del Emprendedor UC3M Programme will be detailed. An inspiring speech by young entrepreneurs from our Business Incubator will stimulate a discussion with attendees.

The problem is interesting for two reasons. First, the cost function closely models the energy consumption of some network elements and network-wide optimization is a well-motivated but under-explored direction for energy minimization. Second, it brings light to a challenging combinatorial optimization problem. We will present positive and negative results for polynomial functions and polynomial functions with startup cost. For the latter, techniques to accomplish better-than-polynomial approximation ratios independent of demands and cost function remains a challenging problem.

Energy conservation is drawing increasing attention in data networking. One school of thought believes that a dominant amount of energy saving comes from turning off network elements. The difficulty is that transitioning between the active and sleeping modes consumes considerable energy and time. This results in an obvious trade-off between saving energy and provisioning performance guarantees such as end-to-end delays.
