IMDEA Networks Pervasive Wireless System Group headed by Prof. Domenico Giustiniano invites applications for a Software Engineer position in 5G New Radio Communication Systems. The Group investigates novel system solutions to improve performance of next generation cellular systems, focusing on localization aspects. The engineer will contribute to research conducted in the team mainly by assisting in the development and improvement of the existing 5G New Radio Testbed at the IMDEA Networks Institute premises.
The mission of the institute is to create impact through execution of national and international research projects, publish in top system conferences, bringing fundamental, cutting-edge contributions to the science of computer networks.
The Testbed is based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) and open-source software called OpenAirInterface (OAI). It provides a 3GPP-compliant reference implementation of the core elements for Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core Network (CN) of 4G and 5G. It allows users to set up a 4G/5G network thanks to its interoperability with Commercial Off-The-Shelf Software Defined Radio (COTS SDR) cards like the USRP devices from ETTUS research.
The main tasks required to assist in the improvement of the 5G New Radio Testbed are oriented on the network side and IT aspects. This demands a high-level experience in software management, networking and system troubleshooting, docker platforms configuration and proactive problem-solving in a unique international environment.
Applicants with background in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, electronics, or related fields are encouraged to apply. The candidate will work closely with PhD students and researchers from the group to shape the design of next-generation networks.
IMDEA Networks Institute aims to increase the proportion of women and therefore qualified female applicants are explicitly encouraged to apply. Until a balanced ratio of men and women has been achieved at the institute, preference will be given to women if applicants have similar qualifications.
