About

Welcome to the Wireless Networking Group site. WNG performs research on all aspects wireless networking and communication. We specifically target experimentation in testbeds in addition to analysis and simulation. Some of our focus areas are:

  • Millimiter-wave networking and extremely high frequency communication
  • Interference management and coordination mechanisms
  • Network coding
  • Mobile network resource and traffic optimization
  • Wireless transport protocols

What’s new!

Best Paper Award at IEEE INFOCOM 2024

The award-winning paper, titled “AIChronoLens: Advancing Explainability for Time Series AI Forecasting in Mobile Networks,” authored by Claudio Fiandrino, Eloy Pérez Gómez, Pablo Fernández Pérez, Hossein Mohammadalizadeh, Marco Fiore and Joerg Widmer introduces a new tool for understanding the operation of AI models that deal with time series forecasting.

Best Paper Award at ACM MobiHoc 2023

The award-winning paper, titled “Scalable Multi-Modal Learning for Cross-Link Channel Prediction in Massive IoT Networks,” authored by Kun Woo Cho (Princeton University), Marco Cominelli (University of Brescia/CNIT), Francesco Gringoli (University of Brescia/CNIT), Joerg Widmer (IMDEA Networks), and Kyle Jamieson (Princeton University), introduces a groundbreaking solution to address the burgeoning demand for efficient uplink traffic in the realm of massive-scale IoT sensor networks.

Best Paper Runner-Up Award at ACM WiNTECH (a workshop co-located with ACM MobiCom 2023)

Or paper “Characterizing and Modeling Mobile Networks User Traffic at Millisecond Level” has got the Best Paper Runner-Up Award in the 17th ACM Workshop on Wireless Network Testbeds, Experimental evaluation & Characterization (WiNTECH).  The workshop will facilitate discussions on unresolved issues, including new laboratory methodologies, key real-life limitations of wireless technologies that have emerged over the past few years (e.g., mmWave, underwater, 5G, IoT, wearables, and SDN), as well as key challenges facing the wireless networking of the future.

Joerg Widmer General Co-Chair of ACM MobiCom 2023 (Madrid)

The 29th edition of ACM MobiCom will be celebrated in Madrid and Joerg Widmer is the General Co-Chair. This is one the most important conferences in our research field. It is a highly selective, premier international forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, and applications that support mobile computers and wireless networks. The WNG will be involved in the organization of the event.
