Mobile handsets are the main way that most people access the Internet. Much attention has been paid to tracking and other unwanted behaviour by user installed apps, but data collection by the mobile OS itself (which in practice means Android or iOS) has received far less attention. Shining a light into this dark corner reveals a number of more or less unpleasant surprises.
