Research engineer position in the Blockchain & P2P Network Measurements Distributed Systems and Networks (DistSys) Group

The Distributed Systems and Networks (DistSys) Group at IMDEA Networks Institute, led by Dr. Lucianna Kiffer, invites applications for a Research Engineer position. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research in the area of blockchain and peer-to-peer (P2P) network measurements.
This position offers an opportunity to work on challenging and impactful problems related to the performance, scalability, and security of decentralized systems. Candidates should have prior research experience and a strong interest in distributed systems and networking.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop tools for measuring and monitoring blockchain and P2P network traffic.
- Analyze network behaviors, propagation characteristics, and protocol resilience.
- Build and evaluate research prototypes, and assist with data collection and analysis.
Required Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience with research (e.g., undergraduate thesis, research lab, or similar).
- Strong programming skills, preferably in languages such as Python, Go, or Rust.
- Good understanding of distributed systems and/or computer networking.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.

- Full-time position for 1 year, renewable based on performance.
