The advent of commercially-available quantum computers has brought forth a wide range of important applications as well as novel research directions. In parallel, there is an ongoing effort in building a global infrastructure capable of connecting quantum devices for tasks such as Quantum Key Distribution, Distributed Quantum Computation or Quantum Data transfer. This position is focused on applying machine learning algorithms, with a special interest in reinforcement learning approaches, to constructing and distributing bipartite and multipartite entangled states in quantum networks. The student will work on problems such as optimal routing algorithms, efficient construction of multipartite entangled states under realistic network constraints or fidelity and throughput maximization.
IMDEA Networks Institute aims to increase the proportion of women and therefore qualified female applicants are explicitly encouraged to apply. Until a balanced ratio of men and women has been achieved at the institute, preference will be given to women if applicants have similar qualifications. IMDEA Networks Institute actively promotes diversity and equal opportunities. Applicants are not to be discriminated against in personnel selection procedures on the grounds of gender, ethnicity, religion or ideology, age, sexual orientation (anti-discrimination). People with disabilities who have the relevant qualifications are expressly invited to apply.
