The IMPULS-HE project aims to strengthen the resources of the IMDEA Networks Foundation to boost its success rate and excellence in the new Framework Programme of the European Union: Horizon Europe.

IMDEA Networks is one of the seven excellence research centres of the IMDEA network, created on the initiative of the Government of the Region of Madrid with the purpose of conducting cutting-edge, internationally recognised research whose results can be transferred to society.

The IMDEA Networks Institute focuses its research on the field of telecommunications networks and has followed a clear internationalisation strategy since its foundation.
Currently, its research team is composed of professionals from around the world with exceptional academic and professional backgrounds.

Participation in the European Union Framework Programmes and the attraction of international talent have been fundamental pillars in the Institute’s growth strategy, generating highly significant results. Its growth has been exponential both in the number of research projects and in its scientific output and the expansion of its research team, positioning itself internationally at the forefront of the development of future network technologies thanks to its renowned research work.

Since 2007, the institution has had the Projects and Funding Department, responsible for providing support in everything related to proposal submission and the management of projects and other grants. This department offers assistance to the research team in all phases of their projects, from the search for funding and proposal submission to the justification and closure of projects.

The growing size of the research team has increased IMDEA Networks’ capacity to attract funding, obtaining 60% of its annual budget through competitive calls and industry projects. This growth poses a medium-term challenge for the Projects and Funding Department, making it necessary to obtain additional funding to strengthen the project management infrastructure. This will ensure adequate support for the research team, boosting its international projection, improving its success rate in the Framework Programme, and consolidating its position as a leading research group at global level.

IMPULS-HE’s main objectives will be to increase the success rate in Horizon Europe, boost the attraction of international talent while reducing the existing gender gap in the research area, improve the quality of research and the group’s international positioning, increase leadership in projects, and attract new R&D&I actors—especially industry—to participate in the Framework Programme.

This project (GPE2025-001651-P) is funded by the Spanish Minsitry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the National Research Agency (MCIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033).
