PhD Student Position in Networked Multimedia Systems

The NetEcon Group at IMDEA Networks Institute has an opening for one PhD student under supervision by Prof. Sergey Gorinsky ( in the area of networked multimedia systems. The duties involve research on video streaming, immersive telepresence, quality of experience, state-of-the-art headsets, and subjective testing. The work leverages prominent international collaborations and extends NetEcon’s recent research [1, 2]. The methodology embraces the successful candidate’s strengths and interests, e.g., in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The objective is to obtain cutting-edge research results and publish them in top venues, such as ACM SIGCOMM, USENIX NSDI, ACM Multimedia, IEEE ICNP, ACM CoNEXT,  IEEE INFOCOM, and ACM MMSys.

An ideal applicant has the following profile:

  • A Master’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • A solid academic record
  • Strong command of verbal and written English
  • Hands-on programming expertise, with multimedia experience such as Unity
  • Good analytical and interpersonal skills
