PhD position in Quantum Machine Learning research as part of the Quantum Information Group

Quantum Information Group

Deadline for receipt of applications: June 14th, 2023 23:59 AoE (15 June 2023, 13:59h Europe/Madrid Time)

The success of classical Machine Learning / Deep Learning algorithms in the past decade has helped establish the field as one of the pillars of many modern research and industrial areas. With the increased availability of Quantum Computers came the desire to expand Machine Learning into the quantum domain, allowing models to be trained on quantum as well as classical data. This PhD is focused on developing efficient and scalable Quantum Machine Learning algorithms, with an emphasis on graph-based learning. Applications range from predictions on similarity graphs between quantum states, analysis and optimization of quantum circuits to learning on graph states and more general network analysis.

Requirements (as many as possible):

  •  Degree in Physics (with knowledge of Information Theory) or in Computer Science / Mathematics (with knowledge of Quantum Physics).
  •  A clear understanding of the basics of quantum computation and communication (qubit modalities, functional components of a quantum network, etc.) is a must.
  •  Strong background in classical machine learning algorithms and libraries (PyTorch, Tensorflow, Python Data Science Stack) is a must.
  •  Knowledge of a graph analysis and visualization library is a strong plus (such as NetworkX or similar)
  •  Previous experience with Qiskit or any other quantum programming language is a strong plus.
  •  Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
  •  A desire to work on topics at the edge of modern research as well as publishing in top conferences and journals is mandatory.
