The Global Computing Group explores distributed computing systems and social networks in the widest sense. Among others it has the following lines of research: (i) fault-tolerant distributed ledger technologies; (ii) volunteer and crowd-based computing, with emphasis on game-theoretic aspects; (iii) analysis of networks using big data and machine learning technologies.
Within the line of research on distributed ledgers, PhD student candidates are sought with a strong background on principles of distributed computing, programming, and mathematics. During their PhD they will devise and develop new techniques and algorithms for systems of lightly-coupled fault-tolerant distributed concurrent objects, and they will implement them as proof-of-concept prototypes.
As a member of the group, the candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with top researchers from all over the world in a multi-disciplinary and international environment.

BSc or MSc in computer science, statistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
Strong interest in principles of distributed systems, distributed ledgers and blockchains, game theory, mathematics, and economics.
Programming experience, desirably in distributed systems.
Experience in research and development, and publication of research papers is a plus.
Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
Very good organization and communication skills.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
