The NETCOM research group carries out research activities on the following main areas: Network Architectures, Communication Protocols, Wireless and Mobile Networks, with a special focus on future mechanisms for 6G, such as integrated sensing and communications, AI for net and net for AI, and Network Digital Twins.

We are looking for a research engineer to work on the following topics:

  •  Administer and deploy different IT systems with different OSs such as Linux and Windows.
  •  Support experimental research work on experimental platforms composed of virtualized and bare metal equipment (servers and networking)
  •  Deploy web based tools to support research and experimentation work.

The position requires:

  •  University degree in computer science, telecommunications engineering or similar.
  •  Contribution to EU research projects.
  •  Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration across various distributions: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and OpenSUSE.
  •  Knowledge of and experience on Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2024 Datacenter system administration.
  •  Experience and knowledge of virtualization/cloud computing systems: OpenStack, OpenNebula, Proxmox, KVM, Hyper-V, and Amazon Web Services.
  •  Experience and knowledge of Lightweight virtualization systems: Docker, Linux LXC, and Kubernetes.
  •  Experience and knowledge of infrastructure/networking: Bare-metal servers, storage (RAID/LVM), Cisco switches/routers, SONiC Network Operating System, NVIDIA DGX AI system, OpenVPN, and SAN (iSCSI).
  •  Experience and knowledge of programming/scripting languages: Java, Python, Bash shell, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript.
  •  Experience with web design: Website creation with WordPress and administration of Apache 2/nginx web servers.
  •  Experience deploying and administering various research project support tools: Mailing lists (Mailman, Google Groups), GitLab code repository, Microsoft SharePoint/Teams, Google Workspace, JupyterHub: multi-user Python notebook system, Synology NAS: LDAP directory, SMB/CIFS/NFS storage server, authoritative DNS domain.
