PhD position in measurements of peer-to-peer networks

The recently established Distributed Systems and Networks (DistSys) Group at IMDEA Networks is inviting applications for a PhD position under the supervision of Dr. Lucianna Kiffer in the area of measurements of blockchain and peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research on the performance, scalability, and security of decentralized systems, with a particular emphasis on network-level measurements.
The successful candidate will investigate the underlying communication structures of P2P and blockchain protocols, develop novel methodologies for large-scale network measurements, and analyze the impact of network characteristics on system performance. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Designing tools to measure and monitor P2P and blockchain network traffic.
• Analyzing network propagation, topology, and resilience.
• Evaluating the influence of network-level properties on decentralized protocols.
• Identifying vulnerabilities and proposing improvements for protocol design.

The position requires:

• a degree in Computer Science or related field, with a solid academic record
• fluency in written and spoken English
• a keen interest in the design, analysis, and measurement of peer-to-peer distributed systems (prior work is a plus)
• good programming skills including fluency in multiple programming languages
