Major Event (Highlighted Event)

ACM SIGCOMM is a flagship conference in computer-networking research. Its participants include leading academics, brilliant students, and representatives of major multinational companies in networking hardware, software, infrastructure, operation, services, online media, advertising, cloud computing, content delivery, and electronic commerce. Centered on its highly selective main track, SIGCOMM published many landmark works in networking and communications.

Coming to Eastern Europe for the first time ever, the flagship annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on Data Communication meets on August 20-25. The program of SIGCOMM 2018 s available at http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2018/program.html .

SIGCOMM 2018 combines excellence with inclusiveness. The schedule continues long SIGCOMM traditions and also innovates to diversify and strengthen the conference. The main-conference track consisting of 40 papers in network congestion control, routing, data center networking, IoT, wireless technologies, applications, hardware support, SDN, verification, and measurements. Jennifer Rexford, the recipient of the SIGCOMM 2018 Award for Lifetime Contribution, delivers the conference keynote. A number of other events run in parallel with the main conference and include 44 posters and 22 demos (including 11 posters and 3 demos of main-conference papers), 13 industrial demos, Best-of-CCR session with 2 paper presentations, student research competition, community feedback session, topic previews, mentoring sessions, and award ceremonies.

8 full-day and 4 half-day workshops, as well as 2 full-day and 4 half-day tutorials, explore network programming, virtualization, machine learning and big data analytics, security and privacy, and other topics of a high current interest in networking research. The workshop program includes a special symposium of invited talks by ERC (European Research Council) grant holders in the area of computer networking. To encourage broader participation in the workshops, SIGCOMM 2018 offers main-conference attendees to register for a workshop at a discounted fee. Participants who register for a workshop or tutorial may freely attend another workshop on the same day.

An inaugural SIGCOMM hackathon concludes the conference on August 25. The one-day event encourages students, researchers, and engineers to gain experience in collaborative contribution to open-source software and research-result reproducibility.

Complementing the excellence and diversity of the technical program, SIGCOMM 2018 benefits from its superb location in the heart of Budapest with astonishing views from the Pest embankment to Buda hills across the Danube. Famous for its Hungarian cuisine and wines, Budapest is a naturally beautiful, culturally sophisticated, and technologically advanced European city. The SIGCOMM 2018 main conference and its parallel events meet in Vigadó, a legendary concert hall with rich history and beautiful architecture. The workshops and tutorials meet in InterContinental Budapest, the conference hotel. The distinctive program of social events starts with the Reception coinciding with the spectacular fireworks held on the Danube to celebrate a major national holiday of Hungary. Next evening, the conference holds its traditional Student Dinner. On Wednesday, the Banquet on a cruise ship exposes to the attendees the fairy-tale Budapest riverfront, dreamy at sunset and stunningly lit up at night. The N2Women Dinner on Thursday fosters the community of women within SIGCOMM.

IMDEA Networks Institute plays a major role in the organization of SIGCOMM 2018. Sergey Gorinsky serves as a General Chair of the conference. Antonio Fernandez Anta is a Travel Grant Chair. Student volunteers Hany Assasa, Guillermo Bielsa, Álvaro Feal, Julien Gamba, Vadim Kirilin, Oluwasegun Ojo, Noelia Pérez, and Pelayo Vallina help to run the conference on site in Budapest.

To benefit from early registration rates, register for ACM SIGCOMM 2018 by July 14 at http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2018/registration.html .
