This talk will provide a comprehensive overview of the LANCE facility, a state-of-the-art ecosystem of cutting-edge technologies designed for innovations and experimentations atop a 5G standalone open-source and O-RAN-enabled network system. The presentation will delve into the innovative concept of Cloud-Network Slicing, exploring how this approach enables the creation of multiple virtualized and isolated end-to-end network partitions on a shared physical infrastructure towards affording slicing as a service at unprecedented flexibility and efficiency. Furthermore, a Machine Learning-based inter-slice predictive load-balancing endeavor, which aims to tackle the optimization of resource distribution across network slices, seeking to ensure optimal performance and QoS/QoE. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the capabilities and potential applications of the LANCE testbed facility, the principles and benefits of Cloud-Network Slicing, and how ML-driven 5G control-plane can enhance network efficiency and performance.
Augusto V. Neto is Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics of the UFRN, Natal/RN, Brazil, and Senior IEEE Member. Augusto Neto is the leader of the Research Group in Future Internet Service and Applications (REGINA) and director of the Leading Advanced Technologies Center of Excellence (LANCE). His strong background in cutting-edge technologies, and participation of advanced R&D projects through which managing large research and developing teams, allowed him to form tens of PhDs and masters’ researchers, as well as for authoring/coauthoring more than 200 papers published in national/international conference proceedings and journals in the field of computer networks and telecommunications, including several best-paper awards. He is involved in the organization of several international conferences and workshops, as well as serving as Guest Editor for special issues of peer-reviewed scholarly journals. He coordinates and participates in research projects funded by national and international agencies, mainly working with 5G/6Gm, Mobile Computing, Smart Spaces, SDN, NFV and Cloud Computing.
