5TONIC, the open research and innovation laboratory for 5G technologies, founded by Telefónica and IMDEA Networks, has signed a collaboration deal with British healthcare technology company, Visionable , partner of O2 and Wayra. The objective of this collaboration is to test out the Smart Ambulance solution developed by Visionable, where 5TONIC labs will provide the necessary technical and product support to ensure 5G connectivity (SA-Stand Alone modality), as well as be available to make improvements in respect to design and construction.

“Thanks to the deployment of the 5G network provided by Ericsson, we will be able to evaluate and support the improvement of these types of services and both parties work together to achieve our individual goals. This collaboration is a great opportunity for 5TONIC to continue its work to empower vertical industries with an automated end-to-end 5G solution”, says Arturo Azcorra, vice president of the 5TONIC laboratory.

The collaboration will have an initial expected duration of 3 months and will be supported by other 5TONIC members such as Telefónica, Intel or Altran. Ericsson will deploy the 5G network required for the project.

Visionable was founded by Alan Lowe in 2015 with the goal of powering the future of connected healthcare. The company seeks to improve the medical experience of those who otherwise would not have access to affordable, high quality, and timely healthcare, with an end goal of making these services available for everyone. The persons’ ability to get the care they need depends largely on their circumstances. Who they are. Where they live. And in many places, whether they’re able to pay. This collaboration is an opportunity to transform healthcare to make it equitable, fair and accessible for all.

For 5TONIC, to be able to participate in the transformation and improvement of the health sector is especially relevant amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In a related European innovation project, dubbed 5G-TRANSFORMER, 5TONIC partnered with SAMUR-PC and the University of Carlos III in Madrid, (UC3M), to develop a 5G-based emergency services assistance system that allows the diagnosis and treatment of a patient on the spot, even providing the patient’s medical history instantly.
