External Presentation (External Speaker)

1st presentation: Policy Management for the Cloud (45 min.)

In today’s vertiginous business landscape, organizations are constantly looking at ways of introducing agility and cost efficiencies. In the particular case of ICT companies, traditional systems and solutions are being progressively migrated to the Cloud. Cloud operators must face the challenge of providing a set of physical, finite resources modeled as elastic, infinite resources to its Cloud users. Different Cloud users run different workloads, have different operational requirements, and are billed differently.

Dynamic, policy-based decisions are a very valuable tool to successfully overcome the aforementioned challenges while simplifying operations and reducing operational costs. In this seminar we will demonstrate how Cloud operators can leverage policy-based Cloud management solutions to efficiently deliver Infrastructure as a Service to Cloud users.

(Lunch break: 30 min aprox.)

2nd presentation: Load Balancer as a Service for the Cloud (45 min.)

Load Balancers distribute traffic from a large amount of clients to multiple service instances, allowing for massive scalability of services. Traditional Load Balancing solutions are usually black boxes, expensive and difficult to maintain and upgrade. Software Defined Networking is about introducing programmability into the networking by decoupling the control and data planes, enabling agility, and fostering service innovation.

With the advent of Network Function Virtualization and the dynamic scalability it enables, there is a need for a Load Balancing function that is quickly reconfigured to adapt to the constantly changing runtime conditions of such Virtualized Network Functions. It is also desirable that such Load Balancing function is protocol agnostic, and can be deployed in a Cloud environment to be offered as a service to users and applications. This seminar will present a Load Balancer solution based on Software Defined Networking technology that can be offered as a service to Virtualized Network Functions deployed in the Cloud.
