With the aim of giving a European coordinated response to the economic and social consequences of COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union Council approved on 21st July 2021 an exceptional instrument for temporary recovery known as Next Generation EU for a total amount of 750,000 million euros.
The core of this instrument is the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), which funds the National Recovery Plans of each Member State with the purpose of strengthening 1) European cohesion, 2) resilience, 3) the mitigation of the economic and social impact of COVID-19 crisis and 4) the green and digital transition.
In Spain, the National Plan funded by RRF is known as the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which is equally structured across 4 objectives, also known as transversal axes: 1) ecological transition, 2) digital transformation, 3) social and territorial cohesion and 4) gender equality.
Among other actions, the PRTR finances calls for R+D+i projects and grants, of which IMDEA Networks Institute has been a beneficiary on several occasions.
The projects that the PRTR has financed in our institute fall mainly under Components 15, 17, and 23.
