El Dr. Zhang ha sido asimismo designado, de forma simult\u00e1nea, para ocupar la ilustre <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uc3m.es\/portal\/page\/portal\/inicio\/catedras_excelencia\/catedrasexcelencia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C\u00e1tedra de Excelencia de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">La investigaci\u00f3n actual del Dr. Zhang est\u00e1 principalmente centrada en el desarrollo de internet como infraestructura decisiva de informaci\u00f3n mundial, haciendo especial hincapi\u00e9 en abordar los desaf\u00edos planteados por las actuales demandas en t\u00e9rminos de alta disponibilidad, fiabilidad, movilidad, manejabilidad y seguridad de las aplicaciones de internet, los usuarios y los proveedores de servicios. Durante su estancia en Madrid, el Dr. Zhang se centrar\u00e1 en dos \u00e1mbitos de investigaci\u00f3n principales: En primer lugar, sobre la construcci\u00f3n de una infraestructura de internet altamente escalable, resiliente y segura, as\u00ed como unos mecanismos para mejorar la disponibilidad, fiabilidad y seguridad del servicio de internet. En segundo lugar, sobre el desarrollo de arquitecturas de internet manejables, orientadas al servicio y de pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n, con el objetivo de constituir un mayor apoyo para la creaci\u00f3n, el despliegue, las operaciones y la gesti\u00f3n de servicios de internet de valor a\u00f1adido y redes subyacentes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Aparte de proseguir con sus propios intereses cient\u00edficos y de compartir su experiencia, el Dr. Zhang seguir\u00e1 desarrollando sinergias y estableciendo colaboraciones con el Instituto &#8211; una labor que ya puso en marcha anteriormente durante su trabajo en calidad de miembro del Consejo Cient\u00edfico, cargo que ocup\u00f3 desde julio de 2007 hasta noviembre de 2010. Se incorporar\u00e1 al Instituto desempe\u00f1ando diversas actividades, tales como ejercer de tutor de j\u00f3venes investigadores, organizar seminarios cient\u00edficos, y apoyar proyectos actuales de investigaci\u00f3n, entre otros.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Dr. Zhang ocupa actualmente la C\u00e1tedra Qwest (Qwest Chair) en calidad de catedr\u00e1tico de telecomunicaciones del departamento de ingenier\u00eda e inform\u00e1tica de la University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (EE.UU.). Obtuvo su m\u00e1ster y doctorado en ingenier\u00eda inform\u00e1tica por la University of Massachusetts, Amherst (EE.UU.) en 1992 y 1997, respectivamente, as\u00ed como su licenciatura en ingenier\u00eda inform\u00e1tica con la mayor distinci\u00f3n de la Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">La trayectoria cient\u00edfica del Dr. Zhang muestra claramente su meritoria carrera. Es autor de casi doscientas publicaciones arbitradas y ha trabajado en el equipo editorial de algunas de las publicaciones peri\u00f3dicas con mayor relevancia en el \u00e1mbito de las comunicaciones y las redes de ordenadores. IEEE\/ACM Transactions on Networking, Computer Network de Elsevier, una publicaci\u00f3n internacional, as\u00ed como la publicaci\u00f3n de la Academia de Ciencias de China en materia de ingenier\u00eda inform\u00e1tica y tecnolog\u00eda, entre otras. Adem\u00e1s, su curriculum de actividades cient\u00edficas incluye la co-presidencia del Comit\u00e9 de programa t\u00e9cnico del IEEE INFOCOM 2006 y de la ACM\/USENIX Internet Measurement Conference (ACM\/USENIX IMC&#8217;08), as\u00ed como su participaci\u00f3n en los Comit\u00e9s de programa t\u00e9cnico de varias conferencias y talleres, incluyendo algunos de los eventos m\u00e1s destacados en relaci\u00f3n con la difusi\u00f3n de resultados cient\u00edficos en materia de redes de ordenadores e ingenier\u00eda inform\u00e1tica, tales como ACM SIGCOMM, ACM SIGMETRICS, ACM\/USENIX IMC, IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE ICNP y ACM CoNEXT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Dr. Zhang tambi\u00e9n ha sido galardonado con el prestigioso CAREER award del National Science Foundation de EE.UU. Asimismo, se le ha concedido la c\u00e1tedra McKnight Land-Grant Professorship y el premio de investigaci\u00f3n George Taylor Distinguished Research Award de la University of Minnesota, as\u00ed como la c\u00e1tedra Miller Visiting Professorship del Miller Institute for Basic Sciences de la University of California, Berkeley. Por \u00faltimo, el Dr. Zhang ha recibido, junto con otros colaboradores, el galard\u00f3n a la mejor ponencia en ACM SIGMETRICS, el galard\u00f3n a la mejor ponencia del IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols (ICNP) as\u00ed como el galard\u00f3n a la mejor ponencia del IEEE INFOCOM.
