Dr. Zaks se gradu\u00f3 en Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n (1979) por la Universidad de Illinois en Urbana-Champaign, EE.UU., y desde entonces ha estado trabajando en varias cuestiones te\u00f3ricas de Inform\u00e1tica: algoritmos gr\u00e1ficos y combinatorios, matem\u00e1tica discreta y combinatoria, computaci\u00f3n distribuida, redes ATM y redes \u00f3pticas. La mayor parte de su investigaci\u00f3n tiene un tinte gr\u00e1fico-te\u00f3rico y algor\u00edtmico.<\/p>\n

Su investigaci\u00f3n principal en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se ha centrado en problemas algor\u00edtmicos en redes \u00f3pticas. Ha observado los problemas originados en las redes \u00f3pticas, los ha modelado como problemas de optimizaci\u00f3n gr\u00e1fico-te\u00f3ricos, y a continuaci\u00f3n ha estudiado todos los aspectos algor\u00edtmicos: dise\u00f1o y an\u00e1lisis de algoritmos, complejidad y complejidad parametrizada, aproximaci\u00f3n y algoritmos en l\u00ednea.<\/p>\n
