El equipo con sede en Madrid se dedica a explorar la comunicaci\u00f3n en la parte de altas frecuencias del espectro de radio \u2013 la banda de ondas milim\u00e9tricas (mm-wave) de 30 a 300 GHz \u2013 con el objeto de aumentar muy significativamente las tasas de datos de las futuras redes m\u00f3viles e inal\u00e1mbricas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovaci\u00f3n y Universidades, a trav\u00e9s del programa de Ayudas Juan de la Cierva \u2013 Formaci\u00f3n 2017, y el Ministerio de Educaci\u00f3n, Cultura y Deporte, a trav\u00e9s del programa de Ayudas para la Formaci\u00f3n de Profesorado Universitario &#8211; FPU, han otorgado un total de cuatro becas (dos cada uno) a los miembros del equipo del Dr. Widmer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Dr. Widmer, que adem\u00e1s disfruta de una beca \u00abERC Consolidator\u00bb del Consejo Europeo de Investigaci\u00f3n, y su equipo de investigadores, est\u00e1n ampliando los l\u00edmites de las comunicaciones inal\u00e1mbricas para hacer realidad una nueva generaci\u00f3n de redes que puedan soportar las exigentes demandas que platean las redes inal\u00e1mbricas celulares de quinta generaci\u00f3n (5G) y m\u00e1s all\u00e1: baja latencia, gran fiabilidad, alt\u00edsima tasa de datos, ahorro energ\u00e9tico, reducci\u00f3n de costes, mayor capacidad del sistema y conectividad masiva de dispositivos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Dr. Claudio Fiandrino, investigador post-doc, es uno de los receptores de la ayuda Juan de la Cierva. La subvenci\u00f3n financiar\u00e1 su investigaci\u00f3n de vanguardia sobre las comunicaciones ultra fiables y de baja latencia (URLLC, en ingl\u00e9s), que suponen el servicio m\u00e1s innovador que ofrece el 5G. Las comunicaciones URLL encuentran su aplicaci\u00f3n no solo en servicios como los sistemas inteligentes de transporte y los veh\u00edculos aut\u00f3nomos, la automatizaci\u00f3n y las aplicaciones inmersivas t\u00e1ctiles de la Internet 3D, sino que tambi\u00e9n se consideran un habilitador para un conjunto de aplicaciones a\u00fan desconocidas. En la actualidad Claudio busca soluciones que aumenten la fiabilidad al tiempo que reduzcan la latencia por medio del acercamiento de las aplicaciones y los servicios al usuario final. Ya est\u00e1 trabajando en la fase experimental.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">La Dra. Amanda Garc\u00eda-Garc\u00eda, ingeniera de investigaci\u00f3n, es la otra receptora de la ayuda Juan de la Cierva. Su trabajo se centrar\u00e1 en mejorar el funcionamiento de las redes 5G y de las redes de ondas milim\u00e9tricas que van m\u00e1s all\u00e1, as\u00ed como de las WLAN, como es el caso del est\u00e1ndar IEEE 802.11ad\/ay. Estas tecnolog\u00edas hacen posible una nueva generaci\u00f3n de redes inal\u00e1mbricas con un rendimiento de datos muy elevado. La se\u00f1al de 60 GHz, que define la longitud de onda milim\u00e9trica, normalmente no es capaz de penetrar las paredes, pero puede propagarse a partir de las reflexiones en paredes, techos, pisos y objetos utilizando una formaci\u00f3n de haz incorporada al sistema. Amanda busca m\u00e9todos para mejorar las redes mm-wave con el objeto de aumentar la cobertura y la calidad de la se\u00f1al.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">A la anterior financiaci\u00f3n se suman dos subvenciones FPU para apoyar la formaci\u00f3n de doctorado e investigaci\u00f3n de dos doctorandos del Instituto con un perfil sobresaliente: Dolores Garcia Marti y Joan Palacios Beltran. Adem\u00e1s, el Dr. Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez Anta, profesor de investigaci\u00f3n y l\u00edder del grupo de computaci\u00f3n global en IMDEA Networks, que co-supervisa el trabajo de Amanda y Dolores, tambi\u00e9n participar\u00e1 en esta importante tarea de investigaci\u00f3n. En conjunto, esperan acercar la promesa de las futuras comunicaciones por Internet, caracterizadas por el Internet de las Cosas (IoT, en ingl\u00e9s), ahora al alcance de la mano, y que conducen a la Internet de Todo (IoE), tecnol\u00f3gicamente unos pasos m\u00e1s all\u00e1.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Sobre Claudio Fiandrino<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">El Dr. Claudio Fiandrino se uni\u00f3 al grupo de redes inal\u00e1mbricas en IMDEA Networks como investigador postdoctoral en diciembre de 2016, justo despu\u00e9s de haber obtenido su doctorado en la Universidad de Luxemburgo. Se gradu\u00f3 en Ingenier\u00eda Telem\u00e1tica en 2010 y obtuvo un M\u00e1ster en Ingenier\u00eda Inform\u00e1tica y Redes de Comunicaci\u00f3n en 2012, ambos por la Politecnico di Torino (Italia). Claudio recibi\u00f3 los premios a la mejor publicaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica en los congresos IEEE Cloudnet 2016 y en ACM WiNTECH 2018. Sus principales intereses de investigaci\u00f3n incluyen las comunicaciones URLLC y la computaci\u00f3n de acceso m\u00faltiple edge\/fog.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Sobre Amanda Garc\u00eda-Garc\u00eda<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">La Dra. Amanda Garc\u00eda-Garc\u00eda se gradu\u00f3 en Ingenier\u00eda de Telecomunicaciones en 2011 y obtuvo una M\u00e1ster en Tecnolog\u00edas y Sistemas de Telecomunicaciones en 2013, ambos en la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid, doctor\u00e1ndose en la misma en 2016. Hasta ahora, su principal inter\u00e9s de investigaci\u00f3n ha sido el estudio de nuevos dispositivos de telecomunicaciones desde cuatro perspectivas: electr\u00f3nica, \u00f3ptica, qu\u00edmica y f\u00edsica. Hizo dos estancias de investigaci\u00f3n en universidades de Francia e Italia como miembro del marco de Cooperaci\u00f3n Europea en Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda (COST, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s).
