As\u00ed se demuestra en un estudio internacional en el que han participado los doctores de IMDEA Networks <a href=\"https:\/\/networks.imdea.org\/es\/equipo\/equipo-imdea-networks\/personas\/antonio-fernandez-anta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez Anta<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/networks.imdea.org\/es\/equipo\/equipo-imdea-networks\/personas\/jaya-prakash-varma-champati\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jaya Prakash Champati<\/a>, junto a compa\u00f1eros de otras instituciones como la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, las universidades europeas de Rennes y Oporto y estadounidenses como la de Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>El objeto de estudio es la eficacia de las vacunas contra la infecci\u00f3n con la variante Omicron. El estudio usa datos del proyecto \u2018<strong>Global COVID-19 Trends and Impact Surveys (UMD Global CTIS)<\/strong>\u2019, adem\u00e1s de datos sobre variantes recogidos por la iniciativa cient\u00edfica global, especializada en virus, GISAID , y el repositorio Our Worls in Data). La publicaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2022.01.21.22269636v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Using Survey Data to Estimate the Impact of the Omicron Variant on Vaccine Efficacy against COVID-19 Infection<\/a>\u2019 detalla las investigaciones y conclusiones de este equipo internacional, que ha trabajado con t\u00e9cnicas y modelos de \u2018machine learning\u2019 (\u2018bosques aleatorios\u2019 incluidos) para una b\u00fasqueda y an\u00e1lisis m\u00e1s depurados.<br \/>\n\u201cLos datos de nuestro estudio \u2013se\u00f1ala Fern\u00e1ndez Anta\u2013 mostraron que <strong>la poblaci\u00f3n vacunada en el caso de Omicron a\u00fan est\u00e1 m\u00e1s protegida frente al contagio que la no vacunada<\/strong>, pero la diferencia es m\u00e1s reducida que la propia de otras variantes\u201d. Este resultado fue observado primero en Sud\u00e1frica, y ha sido confirmado en otros pa\u00edses con presencia significativa de Omicron.<\/p>\n<p>Champati destaca, por su parte, c\u00f3mo \u201cdos dosis de la vacuna ofrecen, sin duda, mejor protecci\u00f3n que una: en Sud\u00e1frica, la relaci\u00f3n es de 30% frente a 9% en el caso de Omicron; 81% frente a 51% en el caso de Delta\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores subrayan el inter\u00e9s del estudio en el pa\u00eds africano por ser \u201cel primer epicentro\u201d de esta variante, que ha podido ser analizada a fondo gracias a los avances en encuestas y m\u00e9todos matem\u00e1ticos y estad\u00edsticos, como los propios del proyecto <a href=\"https:\/\/coronasurveys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoronaSurveys<\/a>. Se ha analizado un enorme volumen de datos recopilados a trav\u00e9s de encuestas abiertas y an\u00f3nimas, una iniciativa de gran importancia en pa\u00edses en los que, por diversas circunstancias, los datos oficiales no son fiables. \u201cPor tanto (destacan los investigadores), los resultados de nuestra investigaci\u00f3n ofrecen una nueva perspectiva y se acerca, con el apoyo de las estad\u00edsticas oficiales, a una estimaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s realista de la incidencia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Todo este desarrollo investigador contribuye y contribuir\u00e1, por ejemplo, a la mejor medici\u00f3n de la eficacia de las vacunas durante la pandemia, clave para afrontar nuevas medidas, no solo para la actual pandemia, sino para futuras amenazas para la salud. \u201cConsideramos (se\u00f1alan los investigadores) que estos datos reflejan que <strong>se necesita mejorar en el desarrollo y despliegue de las vacunas<\/strong> (de una manera significativa en el caso de Omicron), y que el trabajo de anticipaci\u00f3n es fundamental, as\u00ed como el de la evaluaci\u00f3n de su eficiencia\u201d.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"La investigaci\u00f3n para la lucha contra el coronavirus merece a\u00fan m\u00e1s apoyo institucional, dada la virulencia de las nuevas variantes.
