Precisamente, con el fin de lograr el acceso y la participaci\u00f3n de las mujeres y ni\u00f1as en la ciencia, cada 11 de febrero se celebra el <strong>D\u00eda Internacional de la Mujer y la Ni\u00f1a en la Ciencia<\/strong>, proclamado por la ONU en 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los \u00faltimos datos publicados por la UNESCO, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/uis.unesco.org\/en\/topic\/women-science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">menos del 30% de los investigadores del mundo son mujeres<\/a>\u201d. Esta disparidad es preocupante en tanto que la mayor parte de los empleos del futuro est\u00e1n vinculados a estas disciplinas. \u201cLa <strong>matr\u00edcula de estudiantes femeninas es particularmente baja en el campo de la tecnolog\u00eda de la informaci\u00f3n y las comunicaciones<\/strong> (TIC), con un 3%; ciencias naturales, matem\u00e1ticas y estad\u00edsticas, con un 5%; y en ingenier\u00eda, manufactura y construcci\u00f3n, con un 8%\u201d, tal y como recoge la UNESCO en su <a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000366649\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">informe publicado en 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>En Espa\u00f1a, las cifras no distan mucho de las proporcionadas por los organismos internacionales. Seg\u00fan las estad\u00edsticas universitarias facilitadas por el <a href=\"http:\/\/estadisticas.mecd.gob.es\/EducaJaxiPx\/Tabla.htm?path=\/Universitaria\/Alumnado\/1GradoCiclo\/Matriculados\/\/l0\/&amp;file=GradoMatriculadosAmbitoTipoUni.px&amp;type=pcaxis&amp;L=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministerio de Educaci\u00f3n y Formaci\u00f3n Profesional<\/a> para el curso 2018-2019, <strong>solo el 12,9% de los matriculados en inform\u00e1tica son mujeres<\/strong> y en el caso de ingenier\u00edas, construcci\u00f3n e industria la cifra se sit\u00faa en el 28,5%.<\/p>\n<p>Para <a href=\"https:\/\/networks.imdea.org\/es\/equipo\/equipo-imdea-networks\/personas\/elisa-cabana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elisa Cabana<\/a> (30 a\u00f1os), investigadora Postdoc en IMDEA Networks, se trata de \u201cun problema c\u00edclico\u201d. \u201cPocas mujeres quieren dedicarse a la ciencia, la tecnolog\u00eda, la ingenier\u00eda o las matem\u00e1ticas, por lo tanto, hay pocos o directamente ning\u00fan modelo a seguir. Y si las chicas j\u00f3venes <strong>tienen menos personas a las que admirar<\/strong>, a menudo no terminar\u00e1n en uno de estos campos. Es extremadamente dif\u00edcil que podamos lograr nuestros sue\u00f1os sin alguien a quien admirar, que haya tomado el mismo camino\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cabana es <strong>graduada en Matem\u00e1ticas<\/strong> por la Universidad de La Habana (Cuba) y tiene un m\u00e1ster y doctorado en Ingenier\u00eda Matem\u00e1tica por la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Desde muy peque\u00f1a ten\u00eda curiosidad por saber m\u00e1s sobre el mundo que la rodeaba, haci\u00e9ndose preguntas que ten\u00edan una base cient\u00edfica. Pero no fue hasta un examen de L\u00f3gica cuando descubri\u00f3 su vocaci\u00f3n. Aunque al principio dudaba entre estudiar F\u00edsica o Biolog\u00eda, al final apost\u00f3 por Matem\u00e1ticas. \u201cMe di cuenta de lo bonita y desafiante que es y las numerosas aplicaciones que tiene\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/networks.imdea.org\/es\/equipo\/equipo-imdea-networks\/personas\/giulia-attanasio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giulia Attanasio<\/a> (28 a\u00f1os), estudiante de doctorado en IMDEA Networks, era tan solo una ni\u00f1a cuando se le despert\u00f3 el inter\u00e9s por la ciencia. Ella jugaba con los productos m\u00e9dicos caducados que sus padres guardaban en una caja grande colocada en un rinc\u00f3n del garaje de su casa. All\u00ed, \u201csol\u00eda mezclar c\u00e1psulas, polvos y diferentes tipos de geles para averiguar el resultado final\u201d, cuenta.<\/p>\n<p>La investigadora buscaba respuestas a preguntas interminables. \u201cSupongo que es la definici\u00f3n de ingeniera\u201d, dice. Attanasio reconoce que \u201cla perspectiva de <strong>tener una carrera en un campo que imagina y literalmente crea el futuro es un reto fascinante<\/strong>. En particular, la Ingenier\u00eda de Telecomunicaciones acorta la distancia entre personas, cosas y lugares permitiendo innumerables oportunidades\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Attanasio complet\u00f3 su formaci\u00f3n con un M\u00e1ster en Ingenier\u00eda de Comunicaciones y Redes de Computadores en el Polit\u00e9cnico de Tur\u00edn. Y, en la actualidad, trabaja enfocada en el aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico para la optimizaci\u00f3n y automatizaci\u00f3n de redes inal\u00e1mbricas y comunicaciones de baja latencia en la banda de ondas milim\u00e9tricas. Para ella, la forma m\u00e1s eficaz de incrementar el inter\u00e9s de las chicas por estas carreras est\u00e1 en la <strong>educaci\u00f3n<\/strong>. Considera que en los colegios debe hacerse especial hincapi\u00e9 en las posibilidades que ofrece una carrera en estos campos, \u201c<strong>compartiendo historias interesantes e inspiradoras de mujeres<\/strong> que hoy en d\u00eda est\u00e1n marcando la diferencia en el mundo cient\u00edfico\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>La falta de referentes<\/h3>\n<p>Pese a no ser los \u00fanicos indicadores, la falta de referentes femeninos y la <strong>dificultad asociada tradicionalmente a las carreras STEM<\/strong> se encuentran entre los posibles motivos que perpet\u00faan esta brecha de g\u00e9nero. La escasez de referentes se puede traducir en una menor confianza y entusiasmo para orientar el futuro laboral hacia estas \u00e1reas. De hecho, un estudio publicado por la <a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/355\/6323\/389\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revista Science<\/a> sobre la percepci\u00f3n de las ciencias entre ni\u00f1os y ni\u00f1as de entre 4 y 6 a\u00f1os expone que las chicas se creen menos brillantes que sus compa\u00f1eros varones a partir de los 6 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Cabana opina que, \u201cen general, existe una tendencia a pensar que las ni\u00f1as no son \u2018lo suficientemente capaces\u2019 para las carreras de ciencias o ingenier\u00eda. Y eso no podr\u00eda estar m\u00e1s lejos de la verdad. Hay muchas mujeres que pueden ser ejemplo de esto: <strong>Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, Fei Fei Li<\/strong> y muchas otras\u201d. La clave, dice la investigadora, reside en que los adultos nos reeduquemos y reconozcamos que esta brecha persiste en la actualidad para as\u00ed encontrar soluciones efectivas.<\/p>\n<p>Por su parte, Attanasio coincide en que influyen varios factores hist\u00f3ricos y sociol\u00f3gicos complejos: \u201cEl impacto crucial viene dado por la falta de modelos de referencia femeninos a trav\u00e9s de los medios, ya que <strong>la mayor\u00eda de las cient\u00edficas destacadas trabajan en la sombra<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDebemos mostrar que hay muchos modelos a seguir en STEM que podr\u00edan inspirar a las ni\u00f1as. Deber\u00edamos empezar a hacerlo desde edades tempranas, por ejemplo, a trav\u00e9s de eventos de divulgaci\u00f3n, con actividades en el colegio e incluso en casa.
