The International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN) is a highly selective single-track international conference focusing on premier research results at the intersection of embedded systems and wireless networking – an area of highest relevance for visionary technologies such as the Internet of Things or Cyber-Physical Systems and application domains such as Smart Production, Smart Cities, or Connected Cars.

5TONIC Vice-President Arturo Azcorra participates in a panel entitled ‘Innovation through Joint Industry-Academic Partnerships’ at IEEE INFOCOM. At this panel he presented the work of 5TONIC as an example of the successful partnership between industry and academia currently driving innovation and research in communication networks in Europe.

El simposio internacional de computación distribuida (International Symposium on DIStributed Computing - DISC) es un foro internacional sobre la teoría, el diseño, el análisis, la implementación y la aplicación de sistemas y redes distribuidas. Está organizado en cooperación con la Asociación Europea de Informática Teórica (EATCS - European Association for Theoretical Computer Science). Este congreso, en colaboración con el simposio de ACM sobre principios de computación distribuida (PODC-ACM Symposium on Principles of Distributed Computing), otorga anualmente el prestigioso galardón Edsger W. Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing y el premio a la mejor disertación en computación distribuida (The Dissertation Award in Distributed Computing).

El objetivo de estas jornadas es realizar una puesta en común sobre la importancia del soporte de las tecnologías de redes telemáticas en general, y de REDI Madrid en particular, para el desarrollo de una actividad de investigación puntera a nivel mundial. El soporte colaborativo de la actividad de grupos de investigación distribuidos, los entornos GRID, la supercomputación distribuida, las bases de datos científicas son ejemplos de aplicación en casi cualquier campo de investigación científica.

El Madrid Audiovisual Cluster es miembro del comité organizador de BROADCAST, el salón profesional de la tecnología audiovisual, que este año evoluciona hacia un nuevo planteamiento: el certamen dará un salto cualitativo de la tradicional exposición de productos a una propuesta de soluciones y contenidos emergentes. De este modo se adapta a la realidad de la industria de la tecnología audiovisual.

Con el título La Ciencia es mi Vida, entre las 19:00 y las 21:00 horas del viernes 28 de septiembre de 2012, se va a celebrar en la Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid (calle Pinar 21-23) una mesa redonda que, moderada por el catedrático de Física Teórica Alfredo Poves, va a reunir a varios investigadores de los Institutos Madrileños de Estudios Avanzados (IMDEA).

En el marco de SIMO network 2011, la Fundación madri+d para el Conocimiento organiza una jornada de carácter internacional dedicada a la transferencia de tecnología, donde se facilita el intercambio de información entre potenciales socios tecnológicos.

The objective of these symposia is to celebrate idea-sharing sessions on the importance of the technological medium of telematic networks in general, and of the REDIMadrid network in particular, for the development of leading research activity at World level. The collaborative support on the activity of distributed research groups, GRID environments, distributed super-computers and scientific databases are examples of its application to almost any field of scientific research. Two emerging areas of research will be the focus of attention: the e-medicine and the e-participation.

Handoff is a key element in the wireless cellular networks in order to provide Quality of Service (QoS) to the users and to support users’ mobility. Handoff failure will result in the forced termination of an ongoing call. From the user’s point of view, the service of a handoff request is more important, as the forced termination of an ongoing call is more annoying than the blocking of new calls. Therefore, in order to support QoS to the users and to provide ubiquitous coverage, the handoff procedure should be further investigated. The aim of this lecture is to provide a comprehensive survey of the basic elements, the different types and phases of the handoff procedure.
