The Global Computing Group headed by Dr. Antonio FERNÁNDEZ ANTA invites applicants for a fully-funded Ph.D. position.
The Global Computing Group explores distributed computing systems and social networks in the widest sense. Among others, it has the following lines of research: (i) fault-tolerant distributed ledger technologies; (ii) volunteer and crowd-based computing, with emphasis on game-theoretic aspects; (iii) analysis of networks using big data and machine learning technologies.
Within the line of research on crowd-based computing and (social) network analysis, the leader of the Global Computing Group has been coordinating a project that uses survey data to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. To continue this line, Ph.D. student candidates are sought with a strong background in mathematics or physics. During their Ph.D. they will devise and develop new techniques and algorithms for the collection of social data via surveys under different social network models. They investigate how these techniques can be transformed and generalized to build a social probe tool that can be used to efficiently monitor multiple social aspects.
As a member of the group, the candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with top researchers from all over the world in a multi-disciplinary and international environment.
Candidates can contact Prof. Fernández Anta by email for additional information.
The selected student will be supervised by Dr. Antonio FERNÁNDEZ ANTA
