Welcome to sunny Spain! Now that you’ve discovered flamenco, tapas, paella, and late-night dinners, it’s time to meet another essential part of Spanish life: our beloved taxes.
This seminar is a friendly, no-panic introduction to how taxes actually work for international researchers in Spain. We’ll decode your payslip (yes, all those mysterious lines), explain why part of your salary seems to vanish before it even reaches your bank account, and clarify what exactly your employer is paying on your behalf. You’ll also learn what “IRPF” really means, what a withholding certificate is, and why everyone suddenly starts talking about the Declaración de la Renta once spring arrives.
We’ll walk through key concepts like tax residency, the difference between residents and non-residents, and the most common situations international researchers face—without assuming any prior knowledge or love for bureaucracy. The goal is simple: by the end of the session, you’ll understand the basics of the Spanish tax system, feel more confident dealing with paperwork, and maybe (just maybe) fear taxes a little less.
Alex Delgado is a Project Administrator at IMDEA Networks. In charge of incorporations, immigration processes, administrative procedures, purchases and more, he’s one of the most prominent go-to persons in our team.
