During my stay at IMDEA Networks, I have remarked that the terms “distributed computing” sounded like dark magic to some of my fellow young researchers. In this talk, I try to demystify both the theory and practice of this discipline, and attempt to explain some of its basic concepts and main challenges, as well as to highlight the connections with other fields of study.

About Timothé Albouy

Timothé Albouy is a French PhD student from the IRISA/Inria center of the University of Rennes, France. His current research is focused on lightweight distributed primitives such as reliable broadcast, message adversary and Byzantine fault-tolerance, and formal specifications for distributed systems. He has published articles in 3 conferences (SSS, OPODIS and DISC) and 2 journals (TCS and Distributed Computing). He is finishing next week his 3-month visit at IMDEA Networks Institute.
