First International B5G Student Workshop

We invite Master and PhD students to join the first international Madrid B5G Student Workshop jointly organized by IMDEA Networks, UC3M, UPM, and UCM on July 3-7, 2023.

The workshop will be an itinerant event organized on the campuses of top Spanish Universities and industrial technology leaders based in the area of Madrid, Spain.

A vibrant program will offer an immersive experience in advanced research topics relative to 5G and 6G technologies, IoT applications and Artificial Intelligence.

The event will be limited to selected students for whom the organizers will cover full costs (travel, stay, food). We will select the student by the end of May or sooner until all available places are covered.

The workshop is sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, in the frame of the 5G Networks Programme UNICO I+D. Teleco Renta is a program that promotes the studies of Telecommunications Engineering funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition.

Monday 3, Leganés: IMDEA Network and Parque Tecnológico

9:30 h. Welcome in the Auditorium and quick tour of the Institute (Vincenzo Mancuso)

10:00 h. 5TONIC visit and presentation (Ignacio Berberana)

11:00 h. Lab visits: Wireless Networking (Rafael Ruiz, room 1S6), Pervasive Wireless Systems (Javier Talavante, room 0S5)

11:45 h. Break.

12:00 h. Hands on latency measurements and analysis (Interactive seminar with Antonio and Rita). In the Auditorium.

12:45 Talk by Vincenzo: computing optimization from the perspective of cellular networks.

13:30 Lunch next to the Auditorium.

15-16:30 h. Visit Parque Tecnológico.

16:30-17:30 h. Seminar: 5G antenna measurements and new 6G trends (at Parque Tecnológico)

Tuesday 4, Madrid: NOKIA and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)

11-13:30 h. Visit NOKIA premises in the Las Tablas district of Madrid.

14-15 h. Lunch at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), South Camp. ETSIST.

15-16 h. Visit the of the ETS Museum of Telecommunications Systems and Engineering. Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), South Camp. “Historical Perspective of Telecommunications Studies in Spain.”

16-17 h. Visit to the different Communication Networks Laboratories, the Television Studio, the Audio Studio and the Anechoic and Reverberant Chambers of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), South Camp.

Wednesaday 5, Madrid / Leganés: SATEC and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)

10-11 h. Visit of SATEC premises in the Aravaca district of Madrid.

11-12 h. Cyber SOC and presentation of ongoing projects at SATEC.

12-13 h. Meeting with SATEC Human Resources.

Título: Do we still protect Email?

Abstract: This seminar explores the ongoing need to protect email against attacks over the past decade. By examining various email attack types, we will gain insights into the evolving threat landscape. We will talk about the development of tools and protocols to defend against these attacks, including encryption, spam filters, and authentication protocols. Through this seminar, participants will understand the urgency of email security.

Title: Building Privacy Preserving Protocols

Abstract: During this talk, we will emphasize the importance of constructing new protocols that incorporate privacy into the fundamental structure of the Internet. We will examine advancements in this field, such as Oblivious DNS or Apple Relay, and analyze the common architectural decisions they share.

12-13 h. Conference Pablo Camarillo. Title: Latest trends in Service Provider networking. Aula Magna. Building A.

Abstract: SRv6 is a new trend in networking that promises to simplify network operations, improve scalability and increase flexibility. It allows network operators to define network paths using Segment Routing techniques and leverage IPv6 address space. In this session, attendees will learn about the benefits of SRv6, its use cases, and the challenges associated with its adoption. The session will also provide insights into the future of SRv6 and its potential impact on Service Provider networking.
