In-house Presentation

Cloud-native mobile networks pave the road for long-envisioned Network Slicing as a Service (NSaaS) paradigms.  Beyond well-studied management challenges of NSaaS, slice overbooking is a promising yet overlooked strategy. With slice overbooking, the aggregated reservations of all slices are allowed to exceed the total available capacity, as it is unlikely that all slices fully utilize their reserved resources concurrently. In turn, this lets the infrastructure operator accommodate more slices, and thus enjoy significant benefits in terms of added revenues. In this paper, we contribute to foster overbooking as a practical and central principle in NSaaS. First, we formulate joint admission control and resource allocation with overbooking as a novel optimization problem. Second, we solve the problem in presence of largescale measurement data of actual tenant-level demands, providing a first comprehensive assessment of the economic advantages the overbooking can bring in production networks. Third, we propose kaNSaaS, a complete solution for overbooking-aware NSaaS management, and show that it outperforms the stateof- the-art competitor, increasing the operator profit by 40% in real-world traffic settings.
